Q: Can Ed of GottaGuy Services install security doorbells and security cameras that are wired in?
A: Ed of GottaGuy Services unfortunately cannot install security equipment that requires wiRing. A licensed electrician is required for any electrical work. Ed can provide a list of well-rated electricians to get you to your goal.
Q: Should I get rid of my old doorbell now that I have a Ring setup?
A: It is up to the individual, but with the flexibility of a wireless doorbell, it is always nice to have a backup in case the doorbell’s power supply is depleted. (It’s very common to see a Ring doorbell next to the original working doorbell).
Q: Should I get a solar-powered wireless doorbell security camera setup or a battery-powered one?
A: Solar-powered offers convenience in automatically recharging the doorbell. It needs at least 3-4 hours of direct sun exposure each day. The drawbacks can be if you have a heavily covered area over your door where the sunlight is blocked. A solar-powered doorbell and security system is ideal if you have a south-facing front entryway, with lots of sun exposure
Battery-powered is convenient as it requires no sun exposure or dependent on existing wiring.
It will need to be charged via USPS cable every 1 to 2 months and the battery depletes faster in freezing temperatures. It is best for heavily covered area over your door where the sunlight is blocked and north-facing doors not exposed to sunlight.
