Q: Should I get a battery-powered smart lock, or a solar-powered one?

 

A: Battery-powered smart locks are great for most households with dependable performance and requiring AA/AAA battery replacements roughly once a year. (Most locks will send app notifications weeks in advance. Most also have a key to manually open the lock if the batteries stop working)

 

Solar-powered locks offer "set-and-forget" convenience by self-charging via ambient light, but heavily depend on your door's sun exposure. If your front door is shaded by an overhang, or you live in an overcast environment, then this might be a disadvantage.
